Pearl River Girls Win, Boys Take Third at Section 1, Class B Track and Field Championships

The athletes ran more sprints than Marathons at Sunday at the Section 1 Class B Indoor Track and Field Championships at The Armory, but Pearl River relied on endurance as well as depth to win the girls title.

Pearl River's Maria Kohlbrenner won the 1500-Meter run in 5:01.70 and took fourth in the 1000 and teammate Molly Shine won the 3000 and took fourth in the 1500. Ceili McMorrow finished second in the 3000 and fifth in the 1500 for the Lady Pirates, who scored in 13 of the 16 events. Competitors who finish in the top six in an event score for their team.

Pearl River's boys finished third with 80 points, just seven behind team champion Harrison. Kieran Brennan won the 1000-Meter run in 2:34.80 and combined with Hans Lueders, Francis DePinto and Tom Bonaro to win the 4X400 Relay in 3:30.40. DePinto also won the pole vault with a height of 13-0, finishing just ahead of teammate Chris Spadaccini.
