Pearl River Hockey Earns No. 8 Seed in Section 1 Playoffs

Pearl River will open the Section 1 Division 2 ice hockey playoffs 7:30 p.m. Monday against Yorktown at Sport-O-Rama

Pearl River defeated North Rockland, 3-2, Wednesday to lock up the No. 8 seed in the Section 1 Division 2 playoffs and a home game in the first round.

The Pirates (7-10-1) will play No. 9 Yorktown (5-13-1) 7:30 p.m. Monday at Sport-O-Rama in Monsey. The winner of that game advances to play top seed John Jay (18-1-1) Feb. 20. 

Pearl River did not play Yorktown or John Jay during the regular season.

Kevin Murphy, who is fifth in Section 1 in assists with 24, leads the Pirates in scoring with 35 total points this season. Sam Coughlin has stepped up in goal with a 3.75 goals against average.

Pearl River closed the season with five victories and a tie in the final eight games after struggling early in the season.
