Pearl River Junior Softball Splits Two Regional Games

Pearl River defeated Black Rock, CT and lost to West Point, PA on the first day of the Junior Eastern Regional Softball Tournament Friday in West Haven, CT.

Pearl River's Junior Softball team suffered its first loss of the post season Friday, but will continue its pursuit of the Junior Eastern Regional Title Saturday morning in West Haven, CT.

Pearl River played twice Friday, opening tournament play with a 3-0 victory over Connecticut state champion Black Rock. Caroline Kardashian and Mandy McCarthy combined to strike out 10 in a one-hit shutout victory. Sam Alicandri was 3-for-4 and Dee O'Malley homered and drove in two runs for Pearl River.

West Point, PA came up with a solo home run in the fifth inning to defeat Pearl River later in the day. West Point's defense was a key, especially a tough catch on McCarthy's drive to the left field gap with two on and two out in the fourth. West Point advanced to the Little League World Series the last three years and beat this Pearl River team two years ago.
