Pearl River Little League Baseball Roundup

The Pearl River 9-10 Little League All-Star team defeated New Rochelle, 7-1, Wednesday in a Section 4 playoff game in Patterson, NY.

Winning pitcher Jack McKee hit a two run single in the first and held New Rochelle to one run on two hits in five innings. sean Flaherty and Jonathan Farley contributed RBI singles in a four-run sixth inning for Pearl River. Flaherty, Liam McLinskey and Kieran Creighton each had two hits.

Pearl River will play Harrison in the winner's bracket final 3 p.m. Friday in Patterson.

First baseman Joe Sassano hit two home runs, one of them a grand slam, to lead Pearl River to a 10-0 victory over Nyack/Valley Cottage in a playoff game Wednesday. He now has three home runs in the tournament.

"It's someone else each game with this team," said Pearl River Manager Bill Buchan. "Joe always hit sthe ball hard and when he gets it in the air, it's going to travel for a while."

Winning pitcher Kevin Doorley allowed only three baserunners in the complete-game shutout with the help of a strong defense anchored by catcher Ryan Buchan and second baseman Owen Healy.

Pearl River will play next 7 p.m. Friday at Anderson Field.
