Pearl River Native Pucci Makes US Olympic Women's Hockey Team

Pearl River native Josephine Pucci will play for the U.S. Women's National Hockey team in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Pucci is one of seven defensemen on the 21-player roster, which was announced Wednesday during the 2014 Brindgestone NHL Winter Classic. The full roster is available on the USA Hockey website here.

Pucci, a 23-year-old senior at Harvard University, has played for Team USA in two International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championships, helping the U.S. win gold in 2011 and silver in 2012. She was fifth on her Harvard team in scoring as a junior in 2011-12. She withdrew from school for 2012-13 to recover from a concussion.

Pucci attended the St. Margaret School in Pearl River, Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingfrord, CT. She is one of three players on Team USA who went to Choate Rosemary Hall, along with Julie Chu and Hilary Knight. This is Pucci's first time playing in the Olympics.

Read more about Pucci's background in this report on Patch.

The team will leave for Sochi Feb. 1 and play its first game in the 2014 Olympics Feb. 8 against Finland.

Good questions. We've written about her before and had some of that background. Pucci attended St. Margaret's in Pearl River before going to Choate Rosemary Hall, a prep school in Wallingford, Connecticut. She is actually one of three former Choate Rosemary Hall students on the Olympic squad.

This is awesome, Congrats Josephine! I played hockey with her when we were much younger in the mite division (youngest division for hockey)... we played at Sport-O-Rama for a couple years before I moved up due to age...pretty cool for her!

This is fantastic! I am not a regular follower of women's hockey but will now make a point of following the team. Congratulations and best of luck!
