Pearl River Runs Past Scarsdale in Girls Basketball Home Opener

Pearl River dominated early on the way to a 70-40 victory at home against Scarsdale Wednesday.

The Pearl River girls basketball team led by 17 points before Scarsdale managed its first field goal and cruised to a 70-40 victory at home Wednesday.

Eleven players scored for the Pirates (2-0). Junior guard Sam Alicandri led Pearl River with 13 points in her second career start. Sophomore forward Emma Daly scored 11 points and senior guard Missy Scognamiglio added 10 for the Pirates.

Rachael Cohen and Abby McDonald each scored eight to lead Scarsdale (2-1).

Pearl River controlled the game with its defensive pressure from the start, jumping out to an 18-1 lead before Scarsdale's first basket and building the margin to 46-17 by halftime. 

Pearl River's next game is 4 p.m. Friday at home against Clarkstown North.
