Pearl River's Cook Takes 5th in Federation Cross Country

Brian Cook of Pearl River finished fifth and the Pirates took 12th in the New York State Federation Championship Saturday at Bowdoin Park.

Pearl River junior Brian Cook ran the second best time at Bowdoin Park in school history, 16:18, to take fifth place in the New York State Federation Championship Saturday.

Cook's time was the sixth-best in Rockland County history and helped Pearl River to a 12th-place team finish. Teammate Brian Edsall ran the course in 16:46, good enough for 35th place Saturday, fourth-best in school history and 24th in county history. Ben McDermott finished 54th in the field of 260 Saturday with at ime of 16:56, sixth fastest in Pearl River history.

The Pearl River girls finished 13th in the team standings. Junior Kelly Hayes led the way, finishing 45th overall in 19:34.8. Teammate Catherine Rayward was 60th overall.

Saratog won both the boys and girls team championships.
