Pearl River's McManus Tops Rockland All-Time Basketball Scoring
Brendan McManus, a 2005 Pearl River graduate, is the all-time leading scorer in Rockland County boys basketball history, according to a list compiled by Tommy Doherty and other local sports historians.
Former Pearl River Director of Athletics Tom Doherty recently released a list of 37 1,000-point scorers in Rockland County boys basketball history compiled by himself and other sports historians in the county.
Brendan McManus, a 2005 Pearl River graduate, stands along atop the list with 1,583 career points, well ahead of 1987 Nanuet graduate Bill Kurisko's 1,444, which was good for second.
Doherty said that Tom Collins, John Humenn, Jamie Kempton, Bill Madden, Jim McLaughlin, John Mercurio,Dan White, Dick Yerk and Ray Zebro were among the many contributors to help put the list together and check it for completeness.

Doherty acknowledged that changes in schedule length over the years played a large part in the list, working against players from years past as well as those who played in the three seasons since the state mandated a reduction of two games for all schedules.
The three-point line and shot clock also encouraged scoring in more recent seasons.
