Pearl River's Scognamiglio, DeCourcey Named All-Section

Pearl River senior guards Marissa Scognamiglio and Amanda DeCourcey were easy choices as co-captains for the Pearl River girls basketball team.

Scognamiglio was the team's lone returning starter for 2012-13 and DeCourcey had been the top reserve as a junior.

They two versatile guards provided a little of everything for a Pearl River team that went 18-3, once again reaching the County Center before falling to Albertus Magnus in the Section 1 Class A semifinals. 

Both earned their places on the All-Section 1 team for girls basketball. The full team is below. 

Both became more consistent scorers as seniors, but their versatility was key to the Pirates' success. Scognamiglio, a standout defender, ran the offense and provided a strong rebounding presence from the back court. DeCourcey acted as a second point guard, but she also had to play inside most of the time on defense once the Pirates went to a five-guard starting lineup. 

The duo also led the Pearl River girls soccer team to a Section 1 championship. Scognamiglio, who will play soccer at Div. III College of New Jersey, was name first-team all-state for her play in the midfield.
