Pearl River and Albertus Magnus will wait over a week before playing one another in the Section 1 Class A girls basketball semifinals Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
As if the eight-day layoff wasn't enough, the teams will be playing in the final game of the night, a scheduled 8:15 p.m. start time.
The Class AA girls games start at 3 p.m., with Lourdes playing New Rochelle before top seed and two-time defending champion Ossining faces Ursuline at 4:45.
No. 11 seed Peekskill (12-9) will play No. 15 Pelham (13-8) in the other Class A semifinal at 6:30 p.m. before the top seed Pearl River (18-2) and No. 4 Albertus Magnus (11-7) finally take the floor.
The Pirates swept two regular-season games against the Falcons, 60-54 at Albertus Magnus Jan. 9 and 68-53 at Pearl River Jan. 31. This is the third consecutive season the teams have met in the section semifinals. Pearl River won the last year and in 2011.
The Class A girls championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday, March 3 at the County Center.
