Pearl River Softball Pitcher McCarthy Blanks Eastchester

Sophomore Mandy McCarthy threw a one-hit shutout with the help of a strong defensive performance as Pearl River won at Eastchester, 2-0.

Pearl River sophomore pitcher Mandy McCarthy lost her bid for a second consecutive no-hitter in the sixth inning, but that was one of only two baserunners she allowed in a 2-0 shutout victory at Eastchester.

McCarthy walked a batter in the fourth and gave up Francescoa Chiodi's single to lead off the sixth. She also struck out only one batter while improving to 6-0 on the season.

Pearl River Head Coach Mike Carlacci pointed out an outstanding defensive effort. The Pirates made no errors, turning all but one of 21 balls put in play into outs.
