Pearl River Sports: Basketball Teams Beat Nyack

Both Pearl River basketball teams defeated Nyack in league games Wednesday.

In the boys game at Pearl River, the Pirates trailed by a point at home before taking control with an 11-0 run in the third quarter on the way to a 57-45 victory. Senior forward Kevin Degnan scored 21 points, junior guard Jack Byrnes added 14 and junior guard Thomas Armour had 10. Read more about the game here. Pearl River improved its record to 7-4.

The Pearl River girls had a much easier time at Nyack, cruising to a 54-17 victory. Junior forward Emma Daly led the Pirates with 17 points, matching the entire Nyack team, to help Pearl River improve to 6-3. Read more about the game here

Battle for the Belt Today

The Pearl River wrestling team will take on Nanuet in the newly-created Battle For the Belt. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with senior recognition at 6 p.m. and the dual meet starting at 6:30. The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Tommy Scogs Foundation and the Tommy Lollipop Project. Read more here

Pearl River Native Interviews for Dolphins GM Job

According to this report on the Miami Dolphins' website, Pearl River native Brian Gaine interviewed for the team's vacant general manager position Jan. 10. He was one of three candidates to meet with Dolphins owner Steve Ross that day. Gaine has worked in the Dolphins' front  office for six years, the last two as assistant general manager. The job came open when the team parted ways with Jeff Ireland last week.

That same day, Pittsburgh Steelers Director of football and Business Administration Omar Khan and Arizona Cardinals Vice President of Player Personnel Jason Licht also interviewed with the Dolphins for the GM job. Tennessee Titans Vice President of Player Personnel Lake Dawson, Ray Farmer and Detroit Lions Senior Personnel Executive Brian Xanders have also interviewed for the position according to this report
