Pearl River Sports: Boys Basketball Streaks Into Albertus Rematch

The Pearl River boys basketball team will carry a four-game winning streak into Thursday's game at Albertus Magnus.

The Pear River boys basketball team ran its winning streak to four games with a 51-32 victory at home against Nanuet Tuesday.

The Pirates (9-5) will put that streak on the line 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Albertus Magnus (12-2), in a rematch of the Falcons' two-point victory at Pearl River Jan. 8.

The game features two of the top players in Rockland County in Albertus Magnus senior guard Jack Sullivan and Pearl River junior forward Kevin Degnan. Pearl River Head Coach Jerry Houston, Jr. pointed to the Pirates' inability to stop Sullivan as the primary reason they lost that game.

Sullivan made four 3-pointers in the first quarter and continued to bury tough shots all night, finishing with 31 points. Degnan nearly matched him, scoring 30 in the loss.

Albertus Magnus enters the game on a hot streak of its own. The Falcons pushed their run of victories to eight in a row when they beat Croton-Harmon, 60-40, Saturday in the Lower Hudson Valley Basketball Coaches Association Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off at Clarkstown South.

The two schools will also meet in a battle for Rockland County girls basketball supremacy 4 p.m. Thursday at Pearl River. The at Albertus.
