Pearl River Sports: Boys Hoops Falls, Girls Basketball, Hockey Win

The Pearl River ice hockey and girls basketball teams both earned their first victories of the season this weekend, but the boys basketball team lost for the first time at Clarkstown South.

Pearl River's offense bogged down as the game went on, leading to the . 

Junior forward Kevin Degnan led the Pirates in scoring with 14 points, but only six of those came after the first quarter. Pearl River continues to look for more scoring from the back court.

Pearl River (1-1) will look to get back on track 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ramapo. 

Pearl River Runs at Section 1 Indoor Track Kick-Off

Pearl River's Amanda Maroney finished second in the 55-meter hurdlesa nd fourth in the triple jump Sunday in the Section 1 Indoor Track Kick-Off meet at the New Balance Armory.

Maroney ran the 55 hurdles in 9.02 seconds. New Rochelle's Ashley Wiggins ran it in 8.6 to win.

Pearl River's Meghan Keetley ran the 1500 Race Walk in 7:36.60, also good enough for second place. Teammate Sandara Stewart finished tied for third in the high jump.

Pearl River's Ian Kelly finished third in the 1,000-meter run in 2:48.7.

Business as Usual for Pearl River Girls Basketball

The Pearl River girls basketball team opened the 2012-13 season doing what many Lorraine Moylan teams do. They forced turnovers, ran an up-tempo offense and won. Pearl River defeated Mt. Vernon, 69-46, in the Queens of the Court Tournament at White Plains Saturday.

Pearl River will play 4:15 p.m. Wednesday against Scarsdale in the Pirates' first home game of the season.

Pearl River Hockey Evens Record at 1-1

Pearl River scored five goals for the second time in two games Friday at Sport-O-Rama in Monsey.

This time it was enough to win. Pearl River defeated Nyack/Tappan Zee, 5-2, to improve to 1-1 on the season. Patrick Burns scored two goals and assisted on a third. Max McGee two goals and Peter Moreau added one for the Pirates.  Goaltender Kyle Lakowski stopped 14 of 16 shots for the victory.

Pearl River plays New Rochelle 6 p.m. at the Ice Hutch in Mt. Vernon.

  • Pearl River girls basketball at home against Scarsdale, 4:15 p.m.
  • Pearl River boys basketball at Ramapo, 5:30 p.m.

Thursday's Schedule

  • Pearl River bowling against North Rockland at Pearl River Lanes, 3:30 p.m.
  • Pearl River wrestling at Suffern, 4:30 p.m.

Friday's Schedule

  • Pearl River girls basketball at home against Clarkstown North, 4 p.m.
  • Pearl River boys basketball plays Westlake in the Rye Neck Tournament, 5 p.m.

Saturday's Schedule

  • Pearl River wrestling competes in the Cornwall Tournament, 9:30 a.m.
  • Pearl River girls track runs in teh Ignation Invitational at Fordham University, 12:30 p.m.
  • Pearl River boys basketball in Rye Neck Tournament, consolation at 1 p.m. and championship at 3 p.m.

Sunday's Schedule

  • Pearl River hockey plays Hendrick Hudson at Brewster Ice Arena, 6:20 p.m.
