Pearl River Sports: Boys Soccer Wins; Cross Country Faces Nanuet, South

Pearl River will host Nanuet and Clarkstown South in a cross country meet 4:15 p.m. today at Pearl River Middle School.

Pearl River's athletic facilities accommodated four varsity events Monday, most of them going well for the home team.

  • Chris Coughlin scored twice and Alex Castillo added a goal and an assist for the boys soccer team in a 4-1 victory over Pelham on the upper field. The Pirates improved to 7-2-1 with the victory.
  • Annette Krysiewicz led the way with seven kills, nine aces and five blocks as in girls volleyball.
  • Kristen Sammon scored twice for Pearl River's field hockey team in a 2-2 tie against Byram Hills on the lower field. The Pirates are now 2-4-3.

Today's Schedule

The Pearl River boys and girls cross country teams are the only varsity squads in action today. They will Clarkstown South and Nanuet in a tri-meet set for 4:15 p.m. at Pearl River Middle School.

The Pearl River girls have not lost a dual meet since 1990. Nanuet is one of the Pirates' top challenger in league competition. Both teams feature strong top runners, junior Kelly Hayes for the Pirates and senior Megan Young for the Golden Knights.

Tullyrunners.com listed Hayes second in Class B and 14th among runners from all classes in their state rankings, with Young 24th and 63rd respectively.
