Pearl River Sports: Cook Named 1st Team All-State Cross Country

The New York State Sportswriter's Association voted Pearl River seniors Brian Cook  first-team all-state in Class B cross country for 2013 when the boys team was announced Sunday.

Cook earned his spot on the boys team in part when he become the first runner from Rockland County to win a Federation cross country championship, winning the race at Bowdowin Park in Wappinger Falls with a Section 1 record time of 15:45.2. The time was the ninth best ever at Bowdoin Park. Cook also won individual Section 1 Class B, Rockland County and league championships and helped the Pirates win a league championship.

Cook's teammate, junior Michael Mahoney, was a boys fifth-team selection.
The Pirates boys and girls teams both had first-team all-state selections in cross country. Pearl River senior Kelly Hayes had already been named first-team all state in girls Class B for cross country in December.
