Pearl River Sports: Eastern Wrestling States Begins Today
One year ago, Pearl River's John Muldoon reached the finals of the Eastern States Classic Wrestling Tournament before taking one of his few losses and finishing second at 120 pounds.
Muldoon will take another shot at an Eastern States title as he enters opens the tournament this morning as the No. 2 seed at 132 pounds behind Wiliam Koll of Lansing. Muldoon, who is 19-0 so far this season, is the highest seeded wrestling from Rockland County. The full seeds for the tournament can be found here. The two-day tournament is held at Sullivan County Community College.
Teammate James Kelly (16-2) is the No. 18 seed at 118 pounds. Two Tappan Zee wrestlers are also among the top seeds. John Hartnett is No. 6 at 220 pounds and Mike Manni is third at 285.
The two-day tournament features 132 schools from six states. There will be live streaming coverage of all matches from all nine mats atwww.Flowrestling.org. For more details about the tournament, click here.
The doors open at 7 a.m. Friday, with the preliminary round matches starting at approximately 10:40 a.m. Doors open at 8 a.m. Saturday, with the quarterfinals and consolation round four starting at 9:15 a.m. The finals and consolation finals begin at 4:15 p.m., with the tournament expected to end at approximately 7 p.m.
