Pearl River Sports: Field Hockey Reaps Rewards

The Pearl River Field Hockey team made school history by winning its first league championship, going 12-3-4 and reached the Section 1 semifinals before running into Lakeland on its way to a fifth consecutive championship.

The Pirates added to their accomplishments with postseason awards, including Courtney Ocasal becoming the first player in the program's history to earn all-state honors.

The Pearl River honors, as voted by Rockland County's coaches, include:
  • All-State: Courtney Ocasal
  • All-Section: Ocasal, Erin Dolphin
  • All Elite: Ocasal, Dolphin
  • All Elite Honorable Mention: Deirdre O'Malley
  • All League: Ocasal, Dolphin, O'Malley, Jackie Dowling, Maggie Davin, Annie McBride, Kayla Moreau and Angela Rendina
  • Conference IV (Rockland County) Coach of the Year: Shane Carlacci
Upcoming Schedule

Both Pearl River basketball teams open their seasons today, with the boys at home against East Ramapo and the girls playing Maria Regina in the first round of the Bobcat Tournament at Byram Hills.

The Pearl River ice hockey team, which opened its season with a 4-2 victory over Scarsdale Monday, will play Nyack/Tappan Zee 5:45 p.m. Friday at the Palisades Ice Center. 

The Pearl River sports schedule for the remainder of the week is as follows:

Thursday, Dec. 5
  • Boys basketball: East Ramapo at Pearl River, 4 p.m.
  • Girls basketball: Pearl River vs. Maria Regina in Byram Hills Tournament, 4:30 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 6
  • Ice hockey: Pearl River vs. Nyack/Tappan Zee at Palisades Ice Center, 5:45 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 7
  • Boys basketball: Clarkstown South at Pearl River, 2 p.m.
  • Girls basketball: Pearl River at Byram Hills Tournament, consolation at 2 p.m. or championship at 6 p.m.
  • Ice hockey: Pearl River vs. ETB at Sport-O-Rama, time to be determined
  • Girls track and field: Pearl River at Fordham Meet, time to be determined
