Pearl River Sports: Field Hockey Ties Nyack

Pearl River extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 3-3 tie at Nyack Wednesday.

Courtney Ocasal contributed to all three Pearl River goals, scoring two of them and getting an assist on AnaMaria Ferrara's goal. Jackie Dowling and Deirdre O'Malley also had assists for the Pirates, who are now 6-2-3. They have not lost since a 3-2 defeat at home against Nyack Sept. 10.

Pearl River is off until Oct. 8, when the Pirates will hold a Play for the Cure game at home against Clarkstown North.

State Rankings

Pearl River's cross country teams continued strong seasons with victories Tuesday. Both are among the top teams in the state this year.

The Pearl River boys are fifth in Class B in the New York State Sportswriter's Association rankings this week, one spot ahead of rival Tappan Zee. The Pearl River girls also occupy the No. 5 spot in the Class B rankings, with Tappan Zee at No. 8 and Nanuet No. 14.

Those are not the only Pearl River teams popping up in the NYSSWA rankings this fall. With a 7-1 start, the Pirates were No. 18 in the most recent state rankings in boys soccer
