Pearl River Sports: Volleyball, Boys Soccer Both Home Against North

Pearl River will host Clarkstown North in two varsity sports 4 p.m. Wednesday -- volleyball and boys soccer.

The volleyball team enters the match 1-2, with the lone victory coming in the Pirates other home match so far this season last week against Ramapo.

The boys soccer team is 3-1 after  Goalkeeper Austin Maggiolo made 11 saves in his second shutout this season and senior midfielder Giovanni Galvano scored two goals and assisted on two more, giving him a total of six goals and two assists combined in the last two games.

The Pearl River girls soccer team will get its shot at Clarkstown South, one of the top teams in Class AA, 4 p.m. Thursday at home. The Pirates are 0-1-1 so far this season.

Among Tuesday's results:

  • Pearl River's girls cross country team defeated Albertus Magnus and Clarkstown North to , going back to September 1990. Kelly Hayes won the overall race in a time of 17:11.
  • The .  The Pirates did take the first two individual spots, with senior Brian Edsall first in 14:32 and junior Brandon Ilie second in 14:36. 
  • The to fall to 0-2. The Pirates play rival Nanuet at home 4 p.m. Thursday.
