Pearl River Sports: Winter Weather Disrupts Schedules Again

Snow and freezing temperatures continue to disrupt local winter sports schedules.

Pearl River had varsity contests in boys basketball, girls basketball, bowling and wrestling scheduled today, all postponed because Pearl River Schools are closed due to the winter storm coming through Tuesday and Wednesday.

This will be the second time Pearl River will have a girls basketball game against Albertus Magnus postponed. The Pirates and Falcons had to cancel Jan. 3, a game that has been rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26. Pearl River had been set to face Albertus Magnus twice and Tappan Zee once in a five-day stretch before today's snow wiped that out.

Pearl River Head Coach Dan Lauture said he was looking forward to that challenge for his Pirates after they improved their record to 7-3 with a 60-48 victory over Nanuet Friday.

"We've got a rough one coming," Pearl River Head Coach Dan Lauture said. "I think it's good. I really do think it's good because we get to measure to see how far we have come along and to see where we are. Nobody is playing a schedule like ours in a one-week span. I think the next week is preparing us for something big. We've got to respond. We've got to take it one game, one possession at a time and come out with the same fire and the same passion we had in the second half (against Nanuet) all the way through."

There is no word yet on rescheduling Tuesday's games.
