Pearl River Sports: Girls Basketball Starts Fast

The Pearl River girls basketball opened the season with consecutive victories, winning the Bobcat Tournament at Byram Hills.

Senior guard Sam Alicandri and junior forward Emma Daly both represented the Pirates on the all-tournament team. Pearl River defeated Byram Hills, 52-30, in the championship game Saturday.

  • Ice hockey: Pearl Rover 10, Nyack/Tappan Zee 0 -- The Pirates improved to 2-0 with the victory at the Palisades Ice Center. Max McGee scored three goals. He was one of eight Pirates to score. Goaltender Sam Coughlin stopped 18 of 19 shots. 
Saturday
  • Boys basketball: Clarkstown South 54, Pearl River 49 -- The Pirates lost at home and fell to 1-1 despite 19 points and 19 rebounds by Kevin Degnan and 14 points from Jack Byrnes. Conor McGuinness led Clarkstown South (2-0) with 17 points.
