Pearl River Sports: Girls Lacrosse Faces Nyack

The last time Pearl River played Nyack in girls lacrosse, the Indians were the top seed in the Section 1 Class C playoffs. They had beaten the No. 9 Pirates twice druing the regular season.

Then Nyack built a five goal lead, but Pearl River rallied for a 16-15 upset.

The teams will meet again 4:30 p.m. today at Pearl River, a fitting return for Pirates Head Coach Laurie Mayernik after a two-week suspension. Mayernik is a Nyack graduate.

Hayes Shines at Mustangs Invitational

Pearl River junior Kelly Hayes won the 1600 meter run in 4:59.78 and took second in the 800 in 2:18.3 Saturday at the McNamara Mustangs Invitational in Forestville, MD.

Pearl River finished 7th overall in the girls team standings with 43 points. Host Bishop McNamara won with 98.5.

Pearl River teams finished second in the Girls Distance Medley (13:50.5), third in the 4X800 relay (9:59.3) and ninth in the 4X400 relay (4:14.20).

Three Pirates placed in the top 10 in the 3200, with Ailiah Durcan fifth, Amy Kuhn eighth and Cristen Ryan ninth. Emma Burnett took fifth in the Discus for Pearl River.

• Boys lacrosse: -- Peter Moreau and James Stephen each scored three goals for Pearl River (4-6), but it was not enough as Hastings (6-2) rallied from a three-goal deficit.
