Pearl River Sports: Girls Soccer Today, Cross Country Tuesday

Section 1 post-season events resumed over the weekend. The Pearl River girls soccer team will play at home 2:30 p.m. today against Eastchester in the Section 1 Class A quarterfinals.

The Pearl River girls soccer team last played Oct. 27, a 3-0 victory over Harrison in the first round of the Section 1 Class A playoffs.

Nine days later, the No. 2 seed Pirates will resume their post-season journey, 2:30 p.m. today at home against No. 7 Eastchester. The winner of that contest will play at home against No. 11 Rye Tuesday in the semifinals. Rye beat Panas Sunday. The Section 1 championship game is scheduled for Wednesday at a site to be determined. 

Section 1 canceled all competition Monday through Friday of last week due to Hurricane Sandy. Teams in the soccer playoffs were given Saturday through today to play their quarterfinal games.

The Section 1 cross country championships at Bowdoin Park were postponed until Tuesday. Pearl River is the defending Class B boys and girls champion.

Rockland County Coaches Association Meets Monday

The Rockland County Coaches Association will hold its fall meeting 7 p.m. tonight at the Pearl River Elks Club in Nanuet. The event is open to current and past scholastic coaches from the varsity level to modified.

Bridget Cahill of Seton Hall University will speak about NCAA recruiting rules and academic requirements.
