Pearl River Sports: Lacrosse Teams Eliminated; Softball Wins Senior Day Game

Both of Pearl River's lacrosse teams were eliminated from the Section 1 Class C playoffs Thursday.

The No. 19 Pearl River girls gave No. 3 Irvington a battle before losing, 11-9 on the road. Courtney Ocasal, Kayla Moreau and Caitlin Noonan each scored two goals and Jessica Mayernik had one. Goalie Delia White made nine saves for the Pirates, who completed difficult season 5-13.

The No. 17 Pearl River boys lost at No. 2 Pleasantville, 18-7. It was the second consecutive season the Pirates lost to a top seed after winning a preliminary-round game.

Rockland County Track and Field Championships

Pearl River will compete in the second day of the Rockland County Track and Field championships starting 4 p.m. today at Tappan Zee High School.

During the first day, Pearl River's Brian Cook won the 2000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 6:03.7. The Pirates finished the day second in the team standings with 12 points, though North Rockland is well ahead of everybody with 42. 

On the girls side, defending champion Kate Zendell of Suffern pulled away from Pearl River's Kelly Hayes late to win the 2000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 6:49.3. Hayes finished second in 6:57.6.

Pearl River's Emma Burnett won the discuss with a distacne of 94-4 and teammate Sandra Wilson took first in the mixed high jump.

The Pearl River girls are second in the team standings with 23.75 points behind Clarkstown South's 28.75.
