Pearl River Sports: Little League Honors Liebmann, Opens 60th Season

The Pearl River Little League held its 60th opening day in a ceremony at Anderson Field in Orangeburg Saturday.

Very few of those opening days were missing . 

Pearl River Little League honored Liebmann for his contributions the organization as part of Saturday's opening day ceremony. 

"Mel has always been a huge contributor to Pearl River Little League," League President Joan Bourke said. "I asked Mel this morning if he had missed any opening days and he said he thought he had missed one or two."

Bourke presented Liebmann with a PRLL jacket with his name on it, jokingly apologizing for not buying it at his store. Liebmann spoke about remembering the league when it only had a handfull of teams. It has 75 total for baseball and softball this year. 

"Certainly it has come a long, long way," said Mel Liebmann, who was honored Saturday for his years of contributing to Pearl River Little League. "The people who dedicate their time and efforts, you can’t say enough about what they do. I think this is one of the best little leagues everywhere."
