The football team's defense of the Little Brown Jug against Nanuet 2 p.m. Saturday at home is just part of the upcoming week in sports in Pearl River.

Pearl River Schools took the day off, but one sports team will be in action.

The undefeated boys soccer team (8-0-1) will take on one of the other contenders in Class A, Lakeland, 1 p.m. today at home. That is the first of three games in three days, followed by a road game against Spring Valley 4 p.m. Tuesday at Reisman Park nd a trip to Albertus Magnus 4 p.m. Wednesday. They also play at Nanuet 4 p.m. Friday.

The girls soccer team also faces a tough test to open the week, playing at Clarkstown South 4 p.m. Tuesday. They stay on the road to face Tappan Zee 2 p.m. Saturday.

Technically, the game does not count toward the playoffs. It is a non-league contest for both Nanuet and Pearl River. Good luck convincing the players it is a meaningless one.
