Pearl River Sports: Softball Rallies at Valhalla

Caroline Kardashian singled home courtesy runner Caroline Alicandri with two outs in the top of the eighth in Pearl River's 3-2 victory at Valhalla Wednesday.

Kardashian also helped Pearl River push the game into extra innings. Valhalla had taken a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth, but Kardashian singled and came around to score on a hit by Jules Madigan in the top of the seventh to tie the game. 

McCarthy gave up two runs on seven hits in the complete game victory. She singled home Sam Alicandri with the Pirates' first run in the third inning, then doubled to lead off the eighth. 

The Pirates improved their record to 3-2-1 heading into Friday's game at Clarkstown South.

• Boys Lacrosse: -- James Stephen scored a goal and assisted on two more and Peter Moreau scored twice as the Pirates' record dropped to 3-5 with the loss at home. 

Upcoming Schedule

Thursday offers a very light schedule for Pearl River sports with only the golf team in action. 

The boys tennis team will welcome local rivals to two locations in Pearl River for the Pearl River Tournament Friday and Saturday. To accommodate the large number of players, matches are played on the high school courts and at Cherry Brook Park.

• Tennis: Pearl River Tournament Day 1 at Pearl River High School and Cherry Brook Park, 3:30 p.m.
• Boys lacrosse: Clarkstown North at Pearl River, 4:15 p.m.
• Softball: Pearl River at Clarkstown South, 4:30 p.m.
• Baseball: Pearl River vs. Suffern at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, 7 p.m.
• Boys and girls track and field: Pearl River at Red Raider Relays, North Rockland, time TBD

Saturday's events

• Tennis: Pearl River Tournament Day 2 at Pearl River High School and Cherry Brook Park, 8 a.m.
• Boys and girls track and field: Pearl River at Red Raider Relays, North Rockland, 9 a.m.
• Girls lacrosse: Mamaroneck at Pearl River, 11 a.m.

Sunday's events

• Baseball: Pearl River vs. North Rockland at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, 3 p.m.
