Pearl River Sports: Wrestlers Take Medal Stand, Boys Basketball Opens Playoffs

Readers shared their pictures from the Section 1 Division 1 wrestling championships and the final game of the Pearl River modified ice hockey team's season.

The No. 12 seed Pearl River boys basketball team will open the Section 1 Class A playoffs at home 5 p.m. today against No. 21 Roosevelt, which enters the contest with a 6-11 record.

The winner will travel to No. 5 Peekskill (14-4) Friday, a team that will test any team's exterior defense with its three point shooting. If the Pirates (10-8) advance to Friday's game, it would be the second time in three years they faced the Red Devils in the playoffs. . 

The Class A top seeded Pearl River girls basketball team (16-2) awaits the winner of today's preliminary-round game between Brewster (10-8) and Panas (8-10) at Brewster. The Pirates will play at home Friday at a time to be determined.

More Wednesday Events

The Pearl River indoor track and field teams will compete in the Section 1 Class B championships 4:30 p.m today at the Armory in New York City. The Pirates feature strong individual title contenders and they are always a threat to win a team championship.

The Pearl River varsity ice hockey team will complete its regular season with senior recognition 8:30 p.m. tonight against North Rockland at Sport-O-Rama in Monsey.

Section 1 Division 1 Wrestling

Pearl River junior John Muldoon and sophomore James Kelly each earned their first trip to the state finals Feb. 22 and 23 in Albany by winning individual championships in the Section 1 Division 1 finals Monday at Pace.  

Teammate Rob Gullo, a junior, finished fourth at 152 pounds.
