Pearl River Sports: Wrestlers Take Two County Titles

Pearl River junior John Muldoon avenged a previous defeat and won his second consecutive Rockland County championship by beating Nanuet's Anthony Calvano, 8-2, Saturday at Tappan Zee High School.

Muldoon was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Rockland County Championships, but he was not the only Pirate with a strong showing.

Sophomore James Kelly won a 10-1 major decision over North Rockland's Anthony Sulla in the 99-pound championship match to earn his first county title. Teammate Sean McGarvey, an 8th grader, took fourth in the 99-pound class.

Pearl River's Nick Simeti (132 pounds) and Chris Flynn (170) earned third-place finishes for the Pirates.

• The , Saturday to run it's unbeaten streak to five games. The Pirates' record is now 6-8-1.
• Kevin Degnan scored 31 points to lead the Pearl River boys basketball team in a 60-48 victory at home Friday against Harrison. The Pirates (8-5) have now won three in a row. Tom Davis contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds.
• The Pearl River girls basketball team (11-2) completed a home-and-home sweep of North Rockland with an 89-66 victory over the Raiders on the road Friday.
