The Pearl River and Tappan Zee girls volleyball squads teamed up to fight breast cancer in their annual Orangetown Goes Pink: Volley for the Cure fundraiser Friday at Tappan Zee High School.
"We fundraise for the Susan G. Komen Foundation," Pearl River Head Coach Brianna Kenna said. "So far we have raised about $3,000."
The Pirates won the varsity match, 3-0 (26-16, 25-19, 25-20) to even their record at 6-6 heading into Tuesday's home match against Albertus Magnus at 4 p.m.
Senior middle hitter Annette Krysiewicz le the Pirates with five kills and three blocks while senior setter/outside hitter Victoria Grix had two kills and 12 assists. Kenna pointed out the defensive work of Marissa Verdecchio as another key to the victory.
"My team played together and never gave up on a ball," Kenna said.
