Pearl River Teams Keep Home Fields Busy Today

The Pearl River baseball, girls lacrosse and softball teams are all scheduled to play at home today.

Pearl River junior pitcher Mandy McCarthy said two games from last season haunt her.

One was the team playoff loss to Beacon that ended the Pirates' season. The other was a 9-5 defeat by Clarkstown South last May 20. The Vikings hit three home runs off McCarthy during a six-run fifth inning that day.

McCarthy will get another shot at Clarkstown South, which went on to reach the Class AA semifinals last season, in Pearl River's season opener 4:45 p.m. today at home.

"I know I hurt my team so badly that day," McCarthy said. "When I saw it on the schedule, I got very excited."

That game is one of three that will be played simultaneously on Pearl River's fields today. The Pearl River baseball team (1-0) will play Suffern at 4:15 p.m. and the girls lacrosse team (0-1) will look for its first victory of the season against Clarkstown South at 4:15 p.m.
