Lady Pirate’s coach Dan Doherty said that the recognition was richly deserved.

“Lots of girls compete in track in Rockland County and to be selected to any one of these teams is a great honor," Doherty said.  "It is a tribute to their performances during the course of the year.”

Gilbert Hawkins' boys track team took home three slots on the All-County second team:

  • Francis DePinto, senior—pole vault
  • Tommy Lappas, senior—steeplechase
  • 4x800 relay team members (all juniors) - Tom Banaro, Brenden Bateman, Kieran Brennan, Joe Clinton

The 4x400 relay of Tom Banaro, Kieran Brennan, Francis DePinto and Joey Quananto was named ot the third team. All are juniors except for DePinto.

“I am very proud to have as many athletes as we did make the county teams," Hawkins said.  "It is great that they included so many juniors.  It is nice to look forward to next year with so much talent.”

At last week's state meet, Spadaccini finished fourth in the pole vault in Division I with a height of 14’ 6” that ties his school-record personal best.  The 4x800 team of Banaro, Bateman, Brennan and Clinton took seventh place with a school record time of 7:54.10.

"It was way more than we had expected," Hawkins said. "They both broke school records.  Going up to the state meet means a lot of stress. For them to perform on that level was fantastic.  A huge contribution to the success of the 4x800 team was a breakthrough performance on behalf of Brenden Bateman.”
