Pearl River defeated East Ramapo, 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-11) Thursday, giving the Pirates their first victory of the season in their home opener.
Senior Victoria Grix served eight aces, taking advantage of East Ramapo's struggles returning serve all match long. Senior Annette Krysiewicz led Pearl River with five kills and one block.
Pearl River (1-1) had lost its first match of the season Tuesday at North Rockland, 3-1 (25-21, 25-10, 20-25, 25-18). Toni Ghelmi led the Pirates with seven kills and Krysiewicz had six. Grix had five, but spent much of the match setting and ended up with 15 assists.
