Pearl River's Cook Sets Rockland Mark at Bowdoin Park

Pearl River's Brian Cook ran the fastest time every by a Rockland County athlete at Bowdoin Park, 15:54, to win the Varsity 3 race at the Section 1 Coaches Invitational Saturday. 

The time was also the third fastest in section history and the 20th best in state history at Bowdoin Park, which is the site for the federation championship and the national qualifier.

Pearl River finished first as a team in the boys Varsity 3 race with 75 points, ahead of Arlington (96) and Suffern (97). Mike Mahoney finished sixth for the Pirates in 16:56.48. Full results for the meet are listed here

Pearl River also had the low score in the merged results of all boys races with 183 points, edging Tappan Zee (184). Cook had the top overall time and Tappan Zee's Luke Gavigan was fourth in 16:30.64. 

Pearl River senior Kelly Hayes won the girls Varsity 2 race in 19:17.41. Catherine Rayward was seventh and Erin Clinton eighth for the Pirates, who won the Varsity 2 team competition with 37 points. Fox Lane was second with 65. 

In the merged results, the Pirates were second as a team to John Jay-Cross River. Hayes had the third-best girls time for the day behind Arlington's Bela Burda (18:47) and Tappan Zee's Erin Jaskot (19:15.70).
