Pearl River's Degnan Nominated For McDonald's All-American Basketball

Pearl River senior forward Kevin Degnan continues to pile up honors as well as points.

One day after scoring 32 points in a victory at Albertus Magnus, McDonald's announced that Degnan was among 984 prep seniors nominated to play in the 2014 McDonald's All-American Games.

"It's an incredible honor for Kevin," Pearl River boys basketball Head Coach Jerry Houston, Jr. said. "I know he's put in a lot of time, a lot of hard work. He plays all year round and it's nice to see him, his game and his personality really mature."

Degnan is one of 31 male players from the New York Metro Region among the list of nominees selected by high school coaches, athletic directors, principals and members of the McDonald's All-American Committee and the only one from Rockland County. The full list of nominees is available here

The final roster of 24 boys and 24 girls will be announced during the McDonald's All-American Games Selection Show on ESPNU at 6 p.m. Jan. 29.

The games will be played at Chicago's United Center and broadcast on ESPN. The 13th annual girls game begins at 7 p.m. April 2, followed by the 37th annual boys game at 9:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster Jan. 11.  Proceeds from the games go to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Degnan, a 6-foot-8 senior, emerged as one of the top players in Section 1 as a junior and signed with Division I Fairfield University in November. He is averaging 21.3 points and 13 rebounds per game this season for the Pirates, who have a 6-3 record.
