PRHS Boys Soccer Defeats Nanuet, Remains Unbeaten

Pearl River continued its dominating start to the season with a 6-0 victory at home against Nanuet Monday.

Pearl River continued it's dominating start to the 2011 season with a 6-0 victory at home against Nanuet Monday, the Pirates' fourth shutout in six games this season.

"We knew we had a lot of talent," Pearl River Coach Damon O'Keefe said of his team's 6-0 start. "A lot of us have been together for three years. A lot of their hard work is finally paying off. They are a very exciting bunch."

O'Keefe pointed out that a key has been the emergence of senior Jake Tedesco, junior Richie Masley, sophomore Chris Coghlan and freshman Vincenzo Galvano to solidify Pearl River's defense.

"That was our question mark going in," O'Keefe said. "Those four are doing a great job for us."

Pearl River got a scare with Tedesco, who opened a gash during Monday's game that required 17 stitches. O'Keefe said that Tedesco does not have a concussion and though he will miss Tuesday's game at East Ramapo, he should be back later this week.

"It's a positive that he will just miss tomorrow," O'Keefe said. "It's just unfortunate that it happened the way it did because he has been playing so well. He's a force. He was always a big, physical guy, but he's starting to distribute the ball, too. He's gaining confidence."

Junior Alex Castillo led the Pearl River offense Monday with a goal and two assists. The Pirates also got goals from Connor McIntyre, Jared Schlosser, Chris Beers and Tony Ortega. Giovanni Galvano had two assists, while Masley and Alec Zbar each had one.

Austin Magglio recorded the shutout in goal, though Nanuet generated very little pressure on him.

Pearl River is at East Ramapo at 4 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.

"Hopefully the weather holds and we can get this one in," O'Keefe said. "The more we play the better. We want to keep it going."
