Rockland Thunder Red Cruises to Beacon Extreme 14U Softball Title

The Rockland Thunder 14U Red Team went 6-0 to open their season with a victory at the Beacon Extreme Tournament.

The Rockland Thunder Red 14U Softball team features five players from Pearl River's Section 1 Class A championship team.

They were only part of the story as the Thunder outscored the opposition by a combined 41-6 on the way to winning all six games and winning the Beacon Extreme 14U Tournament last weekend.

Starting pitchers Mandy McCarthy and Caroline Kardashian, both of Pearl River, each won games Saturday and Sunday. Second baseman Erin Woods earned Tournament MVP honors. She and shortstop Sam Alicandri sparked the lineup from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the order all weekend.

Thunder got key contributions from the catcher spot. Dee O'Malley provided all of the offense in a 2-0 victory over the Dutchess Debs with a two-run double and Sam Miler hit a grand slam in the championship game against the Conklin Raiders.

The Thunder 14U Red team draws players from Dumont, Pascack Hills and Pearl River. Head coach Mike Woods and assistant Nancy Gilbride are both from Pearl River. Erin Woods, Alicandri, Kardashian, McCarthy and O'Malley all played for the Pearl River varsity this spring.

They will play this weekend in the Dutchess Debs Fathers Day Frenzy in Saugerties, NY.

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend
