Soap Box Derby Drivers Take Central Avenue Today
Approximately 70 drivers between ages eight and 16 are expected to participate.
Approximately 70 cars are expected to take part in the Rotary Club of Pearl River's Soap Box Derby 9 a.m. today on East Central Avenue. The starting line will be just up the hill from Pearl River Hook and Ladder, near Louie's on the Avenue. The races is for drivers ages eight to 16.
Prizes are as follows:
- First place -- $500 bond
- Second place -- $250 bond
- Third place -- $100 bond
Any remaining funds will be donated to the Wounded Warriors Fund of Rockland County.

The rain in the forecast is expected to hold off until the afternoon, but if it comes early, the rain date for the race is June 19.
