South Orangetown to Play Nyack-Valley Cottage in Brady Memorial Final

The baseball semifinals of the Kayser-Brady Memorial Tournament were postponed until Wednesday due to unplayable fields Tuesday. The finals in baseball and softball will be played Thursday.

Nyack-Valley Cottage won only one game in pool play, but still made it to the finals of the Alicia Brady Memorial Softball Tournament against South Orangetown 6 p.m. Thursday on McCarthy Field at the Anderson Field Complex in Orangeburg.

Both championships in the Kayser-Brady Memorial Tournament were pushed back to 6 p.m. Thursday because the fields were unplayable Tuesday. The Billy Kayser baseball semifinals will be played 6 p.m. today, with West Nyack taking on South Orangetown and Stony Point facing Congers. The baseball final will be played on Bocket Field Thursday.

Nyack-Valley Cottage (NVC) reached the finals with a 12-9 victory over Pearl River Monday, scoring six runs in the first inning and adding five more over the final two. Katie Lane, Maille Hawley, Julianne Pelcak and Carlye Graff each contributed hits during the first-inning outburst.

Julie Fitzgerald had two hits and three runs scored and Maeve Woods added two hits and two runs scored for Pearl River, which had been 4-0 in the tournament before the semifinal contest.

South Orangetown earned its spot in the championship game with a 6-5 victory over Nanuet Monday. South Orangetown pitcher Amanda Malperi struck out 13 and gave up only three hits. Nanuet's Tara Connelly struck out 10 and allowed five hits. Nanuet held leads of 3-0 and 4-3, but in the sixth inning with two on, Casey Kousoulos singled and Grace Haley tripled to bring in three runs and give South Orangetown a 6-4 lead. Nanuet got one run back, but could get no closer.

The softball final will be part of the final day of the 10th Annual Kayser-Brady Memorial Tournament Wednesday at the Anderson Field Complex. The baseball semifinals were Tuesday night.
