Tappan Zee Reaches Class A Girls Basketball Title Game (VIDEO)

Tappan Zee defeated Sleepy Hollow, 83-45, Thursday at the Westchester County Center in the Class A girls basketball semifinals. UPDATED with video, reaction and details from the game.

Tappan Zee made the most of its first trip to the Westchester County Center Thursday, rolling to an 83-45 victory over Sleepy Hollow in the Class A girls basketball semifinals.

"It's great," said Tappan Zee sophomore Kristen McLaughlin, who scored a team-high 20 points. "We've never been here before, so to get to the finals is a blessing."

Tappan Zee (19-2) will play Pearl River (19-2) for the championship 5 p.m. Sunday at the County Center.

"It's an amazing feeling," said Tappan Zee guard Erica Richards, who scored 16 points. "We've been waiting for this for a while."

Tappan Zee did not have to wait long to take control Thursday, jumping out to a 9-0 lead to start the game. Sleepy Hollow managed only 12 points in the first half, trailing 40-12 at the break.

"We played really good defense," Richards said. "I love the way we played."

McLaughlin and Richards were two of four Tappan Zee players to score in double figures. Senior center Devona Paul scored 10 points and senior forward Kasey Keane came off the bench to contribute 11.

Jamie Bucci provided most of the offense for Sleepy Hollow, making five three-point shots and finishing with 21 points.
