Which Pearl River Spring Sports Team Is The Best?

Pearl River continues a remarkable spring sports season with Section 1 championships in girls track, lacrosse and softball.

The Pearl River girls lacrosse team will play Mount Sinai 12 p.m. Friday in the state Class C semifinals at SUNY Cortland, with the championship game Saturday.

The Pearl River softball team will try to take another step in that same direction with a first-round state playoff game 3 p.m. today against Port Jervis at Minisink Valley High School.

Both teams have already won Section 1 championships, as did the Pearl River girls track and field team, which will be represented by freshman Kelly Hayes in the 2000-meter Steeplechase at the NYSPHSAA state championships, which are Friday and Saturday at Caledonia-Mumford High School. Hayes finished second to Suffern's Ursula Svoboda in last week's state qualifier, but her time fo 7:05.67 was good enough to advance.
