Young Leads Nanuet Girls to County Cross Country Title

Megan Young finished first overall as Nanuet won the Rockland County Girls Cross Country Championship Thursday at Bear Mountain.

that went back over 30 years. 

The teams met again Thursday at the Rockland County Cross Country Championships on the three-mile Bear Mountain course.

Nanuet senior Megan Young finished first overall in 17:34.60 to lead the Golden Knights to the county championship, finishing with 37 points to second-place Suffern's 43.

Pearl River junior Kelly Hayes finished second overall in 17:56.27, the first meet this season that she didn't take the top spot.  The Pirates finished third as a team with 64 points. Nanuet is currently fifth in the New York State Sportswriters Association Class A state rankings, one spot ahead of Pearl River. 

Suffern's Kate Zendell finished third overall at the county meet with Tappan Zee's Erin Jaskot fourth. Emily Betts turned in the top finish for Clarkstown North, 18th overall.
