Keep Rockland Beautiful Cleans Up During PIP Closure

Members of Keep Rockland Beautiful took advantage of the closure of the Palisades Parkway southbound lanes Saturday to clean up around Exit 6.

Not everybody for the Ironman U.S. Championship.

One local group took it as an opportunity.

Keep Rockland Beautiful Project Coordinator Geraldine Collins organized a group of volunteers and board members that came out to clean up the ramps at Exit 6 in Orangeburg. KRB board members Cora Bodkin and Tom Kyle joined in the effort.

Volunteers were not allowed onto the parkway, but New York State Troopers did allow the group to clean the on and off ramps. According to one of the volunteers, Niall O'Gara, the cleanup team filled 13 bags of garbage and recyclable materials and retrieved five tires that had been abandoned at the side fo the road.
