Pearl River's Hair Guild Taking Part in Locks of Love Event

The Hair Guild, located in in Pearl River's Blue Hill Plaza, is one of 10 Hudson Valley salons taking part in hair and fund raising event this month.

The Hair Guild of New York is taking part in a Locks of Love event to collect hair and raise funds all through February.

"The lady approached me if I wanted to do it and I said absolutely," said Hair Guild of New York owner Gayane Rodriguez, who opened the salon in Blue Hill Plaza in October of 2011. "I'm all the way for it and I thought it was a great way of knowing people, too."

Hair Guild of New York is one of 10 salons participating in Hudson Valley Hearts for Hair, which runs through Feb. 25. Locks for Love is a non-profit organization that gives hairpieces to disadvantaged children under the age of 21 who have lost their hair for medical reasons.

People with ponytails 10 inches or longer can donate it to a child. Just make an appointment with a participating salon to have the ponytail cut free of charge.

"I will style it," Rodriguez said. "I’m not going to let them walk out with a ponytail that was chopped. That’s cruel. I will finish cutting it, giving it a style and blow drying it."

The other participating business in Rockland County is Salon Delia in Nanuet.
