Sullivan Memorial Event Set for Friday in Pearl River

The Carolyn Sullivan Memorial Foundation will hold its second-annual Winter Get-Together from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, Jan. 27 at The Saloon in Pearl River.

Last year, the Carolyn Sullivan Memorial Foundation's first event, a winter get-together, drew over 200 people and raised enough money to help two local families caring for children with life-threatening illnesses.

That was just the start for a foundation put together by the family and friends of Carolyn Sullivan of Pearl River, an eight-year-old girl who passed away due to a brain tumor.

"In 2011, together, we have been able to assist nine families of children facing catastrophic illnesses and passed on in excess of $42,000," wrote Jeanne Sullivan, Carolyn's mother, in an email to supporters of the foundation. "Thank you for your support this year, our first year of operation. We are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish, due in whole to you, our constant supporters."

According to Sullivan, all nine families that were helped are either in Rockland County or have ties to the area.

The foundation's second annual winter get-together is set for 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, Jan. 27 at The Saloon on East Central Ave. in Pearl River. The suggested donation at the door is $20 and 100 percent of the money collected will go directly to the Carolyn Sullivan Memorial Foundatio.

The Saloon is providing a free buffet and will run drink specials. There will also be raffles and door prizes.

In addition to the winter get-together, the foundation held a Celebrate Carolyn Family Fun Day  at the Pearl River Elks in September and Team Carolyn has drawn a large group of participants to the Orangetown Relay For Life the last two years.
