Tuesday, Oct. 1

• The first of two Public Service Commission public hearings on United Water’s proposed Hudson River Water Treatment Plant takes place beginning at 6 p.m. with an informational forum  followed by the public hearing at 7 p.m. at Clarkstown South High School at 31 Demarest Mill Road in West Nyack. The informational forum will allow for informal discussion with PSC staff and representatives from United Water. United Water's report filed Aug. 19 and other related documents can be found on the Department of Public Service website at www.dps.ny.gov. 
  
• The Orangetown Town Council will hold a police commission meeting at 7 p.m,, followed by a town board workshop at 8 p.m. in Orangetown Town Hall. 
• The Rockland County Legislature meets at 7 p.m. at 11 New Hempstead Road in New City.

• Gracepoint Gospel Fellowship will host a County Executive Candidates’ Debate from 7 to 9 p.m.  A meet and greet opportunity with the candidates will begin at 6 p.m. Gracepoint at 384 New Hempstead Road in New City. 
  
• The Legal Aid Society of Rockland County’s Annual Gala will honor Carolyn Fish, the longtime executive director of the Center for Safety & Change formerly known as the Rockland Family Shelter. The event begins at 7 p.m. at The View On The Hudson at 101 Shad Row in Piermont.

• The Rockland County Clerk’s office is holding a Naturalization Ceremony for 150 new citizens. The paperwork processing begins at 8:30 a.m. with the ceremony starting at 10 a.m. at North Rockland High School at 106 Hammond Road in Thiells. 
  
• It's a new month, so it must be time for First Friday in Nyack. Local participating businesses help show off local art and artists from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in this monthly event organized by the Nyack Art Collective. This month's First Friday will include a flash sketch mob led by Bill Batson. Read more here. 
• Actor Alec Baldwin will host a panel discussion about Indian Point starting 6:30 p.m. Friday at Rockland Community College. Find out more here. 

• Registration for the Annual Tommy Foley 5K Run/Walk For COPS Barn begins at 9 a.m. at 135 Convent Road in Nanuet. The event starts at 10 a.m.
  
• The Pearl River Day Festival will take over Central Ave.. and John Street in Pearl River from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be live entertainment on two stages and over 100 shopping and food vendors set up for the Pearl River Chamber of Commerce Event, now in its seventh year. Read more here.
