Check Out Athletic Invitationals, Movie Friday

A pair of holiday athletic invitationals highlight this weekend's activities in and around Pearl River, with the Pirates hosting wrestling and track and field events.

Pearl River Holiday Track Festival
  • Where: Rockland Community College's Levy Fieldhouse at 145 College Road in Suffern
  • When: Friday, Dec. 27 at 8:30 a.m.
  • Description: Top high school indoor track and field programs from New York and New Jersey compete in this annual event. Donfirmed participants include Albertus Magnus, Alexander Hamilton, Arlington, Beacon, Clarkstown North, Clarkstown South, Cornwall, East Syracuse Minoa, Edgemont, Eldred, Fox Lane, Hackensack, Haldane, Irvington, John Jay-EF, Monroe Woodbury, Murray Bergtraum, Nanuet, Newton, North Rockland, Nyack, Ossining, Paramus, Pawling, Pearl River, Poughkeepsie, RC Ketcham, Rye, Scarsdale, Somers, St. Francis Prep (girls), Suffern, Tappan Zee, Townsend Harris, Vernon, Verona, Wayne Valley, Westlake, White Plains and Yonkers. 
Palisades Center Barnes & Noble Storytime
  • Where: The Barnes and Noble on the fourth floor of the Palisades Center Mall
  • When: Friday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Description: Share in a reading of Robert Neubecker's Winter is for Snow. Follow two siblings as they explore the joys of winter, outdoors and in. This child-friendly activity includes making a snowflake after the story. 
Friday Films at Pearl River Public Library
  • Where: The Pearl River Room in Pearl River Public Library on Franklin Ave. 
  • When: Friday, Dec. 27 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
  • Description: This week's Friday Films features a free showing of Vengeance Valley, a 1951 film starring Burt Lancaster. For more information, contact James Cassetta at (845) 735-4084 ext 139. 
O'Connell Wrestling Tournament
  • Where: Pearl River High School
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m.
  • Description: Top wrestling programs from in and around Rockland County compete in this annual event. Confirmed participants include Clarkstown North, Croton Harmon, East Ramapo, Hendrick Hudson, North Rockand, Nyack, Sleepy Hollow, Tuxedo, Woodlands and Yorktown.
