Last chance: Stroll an Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit

Here are 6 tips to make your day trip perfect.

The end is near for the many sculptures dotting a 1.5 mile route in the Village of Ossining. By Oct. 26, they will taken down after an exciting 6-month stint.

Meanwhile, the 1.5 mile, 15-sculpture walking tour is a pleasure for the senses, and here are six tips to help you make the most of it.

  • Don't want too much of a hike? Park a second car at the train station and then start at the Ossining Library, zigzagging back and forth on Route 9 but keeping a steady downhill course to the Hudson River.
  • Pick up a map at the library before you start.
  • Don't miss "Let's Roll," the wheel that prominently sits perched in a triangle of grass at the apex of Main and Church streets. Made by James Haven with stainless steel, plate, shaft and gear, this sculpture could be a permanent installation if a fundraising effort to cover the purchase price is successful. It “had overwhelming appeal to residents, merchants and visitors, all who wished this installation was permanent,” officials said.
  • Do give yourself time to enjoy the waterfront while the weather's so glorious.
  • Check out the sculpture commentaries featured on Ossining's new app tour called 'Otocast.' With a QR code reader app on your smartphone (also downloadable from free on iTunes) you can scan this QR code (pictured above) to download the free app from iTunes.
  • Want a break, a nosh and something hot or cold to drink? Check out the Keenan House or the Douro Cafe on Main Street.
