Support Charities With Chili, BBQ and Cars in Pearl River

Pearl River's Central Avenue Field often fills up for local events, but few weekends there are as busy as this one with the Pearl River SEPTA Chili Cookoff and the Lions Club Flea Market and Fair both sharing the space Saturday and the Pearl River Car Show taking over Sunday.

Pearl River Lions Club Flea Market and Craft Fair

  • Where: Central Avenue Field in Pearl River
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: Admission is ree
  • Description: The flea market features baby items, food, homemade chocolate, tools, used goods, sunglasses, wallets, gift baskets, jewelry, accessories, dolls, books, charm bracelets and much more. The rain date for this event is Sept. 28. Pearl River SEPTA Chili Cookoff
  • Where: Central Avenue Field in Pearl River
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m.
  • Cost: $1 per sample of chili
  • Description: Local restaurants and delicatessens put their chili to the test and help raise money for the Pearl River Special Education PTA Scholarship Fund in this annual event, now in its seventh year. Hot dogs, ice cream, soft drinks and bottled water will also be available and the family-friendly entertainment will include music, games and raffles.
Friends and Family Charity BBQ Festival for the Wounded Warrior Project
  • Where: James H. Andreson Legion Post 1119 at 61 Hunt Road in Orangeburg.
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from noon to 6 p.m. 
  • Cost: $35 pre-registered and $45 at the door for adults; $25 and $30 at the door for under 21 and kids under 10 get in free
  • Description: The fourth annual barbecue offers food, beverages and live music. There will also be an amateur rib smoking contest. The proceeds from this year's festival will go to the Wounded Warrior Project, which works to enlist the public's aids to provide for the needs of injured service members. Pearl River Auto Show
  • Where: Central Avenue Field in Pearl River
  • When: Sunday, Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Cost: Registration is $20 per vehicle, but admission to see the cars is free
  • Description: The Rockland Rodders and Pearl River Hook & Ladder Co. present the 2013 Pearl River Auto Show. All money raised goes to local charities.
